The best Russian regions in quality of life: the Federal State Statistics Service regional ranking

Moscow, St. Petersburg and the Moscow region took the leading positions in the regional ranking on the quality of life in 2019.

As a result of a comprehensive accounting of 70 indicators, experts indicated that these subjects of the country are distinguished by the development of infrastructure, a high level of economic and social development, together with a high potential of further development.


Also in the top 10 ranking are Tatarstan, Belgorod region, Krasnodar, Voronezh, Leningrad and Kaliningrad regions and Khanty-Mansiysk Autonomous Okrug — Yugra. They got about 40% of the total gross regional product, retail turnover and investment in fixed assets.

North Ossetia, Buryatia, Kalmykia, Ingushetia, Altai Republic, Kurgan Region, Trans-Baikal Territory, Jewish Autonomous Region, Karachay-Cherkessia and Tuva are closing the ranking. The reason is related with the low level of socio-economic development, low incomes of residents and high unemployment.
On December the 12th, the Federal State Statistics Service published a study on the provision of Russian families with food. It says that every sixth family reported a deterioration in their diet over the past year, 12 percent were of the opposite opinion. The vast majority — 71.3%, did not notice a change in diet. On average, Russian families spend more than a third of their expenses on food — 34.3%. Most of all goes to families in which only pensioners — 40.6%.

In August 2019, St. Petersburg was the leader in the ranking among Russian regions in the number of patients with first-time identified mental disorders. The quantity of all detected disorders are twice higher than in Moscow.
