Thirty-three state attorney generals, including Ohio attorney general Dave Yost, are urging companies such as Amazon, Craigslist and Craigslist Youngstown, Facebook, eBay and Walmart to take a tougher stance on price gouging.

“The Internet should not be a safe haven for bad actors to take basic necessities hostage,” Yost said. “These companies need to do more to control their markets, especially during the global health crisis.”

A letter from the Attorney General today sent companies a few examples of price gouging on market platforms, all of which occurred during the COVID-19 pandemic: Craigslist Youngstown sold a two-liter bottle of hand sanitizer for $ 250; on Facebook, an eight-ounce bottle sold for $ 40; and on eBay, face mask packages sold for $ 40 and $ 50.

Attorney generals recommend a few changes to protect consumers from price gouging.
